1.Try to see if the object or area you will be measuring is small enough for you to handle alone. If not, try to get somebody who can assist you in holding the other end of the tape so that you will have an accurate measure
2.Linear feet is the unit of measurement that refers to linear footage and it is actually a measurement of a line in feet. Determine the line of measurement on the area or object that you will measure before you start pulling your tape measure. You might be trying to measure a wall from end to end or a fence, whatever it might be, getting the linear footage simply means getting a straight line measurement from one end to another.
3.Determine at which point you would want to start the measurement and put the tip of the tape measure there,pull the tape on a straight line up to the point where you want the measurement to end. As soon as you make your reading, write the measurement on a piece of paper, I have seen a lot of people unable to recall the exact measurement afterward, taking note of the measurement would certainly avoid errors.
